Check these 9 practical steps to maintain resolutions and achieve your goals.
We set goals all the time and only handful of people are able to achieve them. You are excited for the first few days, and slowly the excitement slows and you are unable to stick to your goals.
More than commitment is required to stay committed towards your goals and resolution.
9 Steps To Stay Motivated & Achieve Your 2019 Goals
1. Prepare yourself
Before you start acting towards your goal, you must prepare. Firstly in your diary, planner, journal write your goal. Keep it clear and brief. For example, instead of I want to lose weight and be healthy, write lose 10kg till March to be healthy again.
Depending on what you are goal/ resolution is, write in brief so that your mind can focus upon it.
2. Get a tracking planner
This is something which can help in sticking to your goal every single day without skipping or procrastinating.
You will stay responsible and motivated by recording in this cute tracking planner.
Here’ is how you can use it:
Write first resolution on top. Suppose, the goal is to lose weight by exercising daily. Write it on top and after exercising each day put a tick in the box for that day. If you skip the task, put a dash (-) or dot on that day’s block.
At the end of the week, give points & add your score like this:
For each tick give 1 point
For each dash/dot give yourself 0 points
Now calculate the total and write score in the column:
If the score is less than 6-7 try to score it the next week. If you achieved it already, keep it like this for the coming weeks. ( Decide the best score on your judgement. Resolutions like exercising require rest days in between)
Similarly, keep doing the task each week and calculate the score.
Break Goals:
After writing your goal, it’s best to divide it into smaller tasks. Remember it’s easy to do small tasks because your mind feels it’s less work to do. That’s why divide the goals into weekly, monthly or quarterly tasks.
To do this, you can download this useful planner which will help you in easily tracking your weekly, monthly and Quarterly tasks and achieve your goals.
Use these trackers in the same way like you did in previous step.
When you accomplish and stick to the goal, rewarding yourself could act as motivation.
This is great to remind yourself about your resolution. Write resolution/ task on sticky notes and put them in different places around your home.
5. Reminders
Use mobile apps or put simple reminders in your phone about the task/goal. If there are certain times you know that you may procrastinate the task or skip it, then set reminders for that time duration.
For example, during holidays you may forget about the resolution, so set reminders at frequent intervals and they’ll help remind you of your task.
6. Mediate and Manifest
This may sound strange, but telling the mind to achieve the goal actually works. Meditate and think about the outcome of that goal. Imagine the feeling of accomplishment. Let it sink in your heart. Whenever you feel that as if you are losing focus or you lack motivation, recall this feeling and get back to the task.
Believe that whatever you aim is, it’s within your reach. It’s easy to do. It’s not hard to stick to it. And nothing can stop you from accomplishing it. Believe that you can do it. It’s not that big. It’s small and easy.
8. Stay committed
Share your goals with partner/family/ friend who will encourage and make you accountable. Tell them to remind you when you are going off track.
9. It’s a Habit
After doing task for few days; tell yourself that it’s your habit now. It’s not new but something you’ve been doing since long while. You cannot break this consistency. Remind yourself to keep doing it because you’ve already done it for so long. Go for small task while focusing on huge goal.
